Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory - -are we there yet? NO

We made it to Whitehorse YT around 4pm this afternoon. Dave and I survived our night in the Belvedere Motel (I slept with one eye open, fully dressed including socks and one of my sweatshirts doubled as a pillowcase)! We had dinner in their bar with some of the locals - the drink of choice was a fifth of any liquor and a 15 PAK of beer ..I am not kidding.  The bartender brought in her own PPV box so she could watch  the Cage Fighting Tournaments - I overheard she paid $60 for the feed.  At least is wasn't hockey for a change...since we have been in Canada the only programming we have seen in any bar/restaurant is Hockey, it does not matter what time of day it is always on. Anyway..we enjoyed (not) the cage fighting, trucker clientele, and the 3 drug dealers that stopped in to visit with the bartender. I had to keep a close eye on Dave for fear that one of the 'patrons' may try to steal him! Dave was the "Brad Pitt" of the bar.  After a few hours of "FUN" we went back to our room and napped. I am usually not a very good morning person - but for some reason I was up and ready to hit the road around 6:30am.  Thankfully the restaurant at the hotel wasn't open for breakfast - so we ended up having breakfast with "SALLY" and her husband down the road at "Sally's" see photo.
Sally made us a nice breakfast while we shot the sh*t with her husband.  There was a total of 3 tables in the whole restaurant! I could not make up this stuff.  After we left Sally's we ran into another herd of caribou on the road...they were up early too!  I took a picture of a caribou with antlers and when I downloaded it I noticed there was a moose standing next to him! The drive to Whitehorse was a little icy in spots and we had to stop a few times for caribou to move out of the way. Again the scenery was truly spectacular, we can only imagine how nice this must be in the summer.
We are now in a nice hotel (seriously it is nice) and the town looks open - 99% of the places we drive by are closed and don't open until May. I am very glad I don't have to sleep with one eye open and and can take my shoes off tonight.  Tomorrow our goal is to get to TOK, Alaska..then hopefully to our new home in Cooper Landing.  Since we go back into the US tomorrow I hope they don't make us unload our trailer again!  Will let you know tomorrow! Bye for now...Heidi
