Some new pics from our trip...

Finally...we are here!

Well we finally pulled into Cooper Landing on Wednesday, March 31st.  Our final leg of our own "Amazing Race" was yet another eye popping scenic ride across Alaska.

Our last blog was Tuesday when we checked into the "Burnt Paw" cabins in Tok Alaska. Our cabin was very charming and cozy. It was the best place we stayed during our 18 days on the road.  The owners, Nancy and Bill were so nice and friendly.  Nancy made us "biscuits and gravy" for breakfast  and it was all set up for us in the back of their little gift shop/front office cabin.  They were the cutest couple! Dave's cell phone died  so we decided to spend our last night in Anchorage and look for a verizon store before we continued on to Cooper Landing.  Well...we learned Verizon doesn't have any stores in AK!! Surprise to us..after Verizon said they did when we bought an air card before we left PA.  I will have to remember to send them a nice email!  Anyway...we stayed over and ate at a really funny old Alaskan restaurant called "Gwennies".  For any of you that have watched Chef Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares" this place was a classic 'case' for Chef Ramsey! It was sooooo bad but we actually had a great time playing out our version of the 'show'.  After dinner we just went back to our last night in a hotel - actually this was the same hotel we stayed in - in January when Dave and I came out to check out the job, so it was sort of going full circle for us.   On our last leg of the trip we decided to have lunch in Girdwood at Alyeska Ski Resort.  The place is beautiful and the slopes are not for beginners, so I will most likely be in the lounge watching Dave!  We got to our new place around 4pm!  The owner, Bill was here to meet us and we all went to dinner at the Sun Rise Cafe for dinner.  It's the only place open right now to eat...the "Kingfisher Road House" opens this weekend - which is I understand a big deal. So we have that to look forward to  this weekend.  The Sunrise was good..we met "Jerry" the cook, Lisa our waitress and Sharon I think she was bartending?  They were nice and the food was good too.  Dave and I had a nice night in our new home and our bed is very comfy.  We have already seen several eagles flying around.  There are 3 generations of eagles living here on the property according to the owner...there are new 'chicks' this spring.  NO bears yet (Angela tell Jack) but I was told I should be seeing them around the 3rd week of April! I found a few cans of  'bear' repellent in the closet - my new spring accessory!  Today we met "Steve" at the post office, unpacked a few kitchen boxes and Dave set up our satellite TV so we can see what's happening in the real world. Our new home is very nice - not much storage so I think we may have to another garage sale! It's nice to finally get here but we really miss everyone and hope you make plans to come and visit us...our new address is PO BOX 842, Cooper Landing AK 99572-0842 - We will continue with our blog so keep checking if your interested in what we are up to...I am sure we will have some interesting stories to share.  I am posting alot of my photos on my facebook if you want to see more pictures of our trip.  To be continued..Heidi and Dave
