Snowy roads forces us to layover in Fort Nelson,BC

We won't be making it to the Yukon today or probably even tomorrow. Snow and bitter cold have forced us to stop in Fort Nelson, BC. Our day started out uneventful as dry roads greeted us as we left Fort St John and headed onto the alaska highway rte 97 toward our goal of Watson Lake, YT. We passed a burning truck one hour into the drive and then stopped for gas at Pink Mountain camp. Gas stations are few and far between. Most are closed till May when tourism picks up. Snow began to fall and the roads soon got treacherous for a guy and girl from PA driving a trailer as big as their car. We crawled into the town of Fort Nelson to hang out with the oil, gas and logging folks. I believe that we are an odd sight for most of these people as we see no one else on the road. We will probably stay here till Saturday when the forecast is for warmer temps and sunshine. Todays high was only 15F. Heidi is doing laundry..yea! and I am plotting our next leg of our trip from Fort Nelson to Whitehorse, YT (591m). It's another crossing of the steepest slopes of the Northern rockies. Our goal is to be in Tok, Alaska by Monday.
