It's still a wintry scene in Southwest Alaska. After anotherr...day of snow, we decided to ski and snowboard at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. Yeah, The sun came out for our 1 hr journey to the slopes.
Fans of winter sports..this is a beautiful place. Heidi did notice the complete lack of beginner and intermediate(green and blue for the color savvy folks) slopes on the trail map. Being ever so bold, I gave her the talk.. "You can do it". Meanwhile my palms were sweating profusely as we stared at the stttteeeeeep slopes. They had groomed little 20 ft wide swaths down the mountain in spots. Otherwise it was a foot of new snow everywhere. I promised Heidi that if she made it down we could go to lunch immediately. YES, that would be a liquid lunch. Well like the Dragster at Cedar Point amusement park, each run got easier and we loved it. We found ourselves scrambling back for more until our senior bodies started to fail. I was pretty hot on my snowboard taking off into the powder often. Finally time to quit when Heidi's last run looked like Gumby on skis. Of course I quit too so as not to make her feel bad and we made tracks to the Sitzmark bar for a pitcher of beer and wings. Some pretty pics to prove we did this. Headed home feeling good but tired..a frozen pizza then some TV. BTW we found out that we are one of the few in Cooper Landing with TV!
